The atmosphere is casual yet vibrant, allowing you to kick back while savoring every bite. Now, let’s talk about the food. Dishes like the Blackened Red Snapper and Port of New Orleans Pasta highlight the seafood flavors of the region, skillfully prepared to impress even the most discerning palates. Patrons rave about the Crispy Boudin Balls, though experiences may vary based on personal taste preferences. The star of the show might just be the Bananas Foster, complete with a dazzling tableside fire presentation—a perfect blend of entertainment and taste.
During my visit, the Brabant Potatoes caught my attention; perfectly cubed and deep-fried, they make a delightful side. And if you’re in doubt about your choices, pair them with their famous Blackstrap Molasses Bacon, which is guaranteed to elevate your dish to new heights.
Customer feedback consistently highlights the superb service, with many praising the attentive and friendly staff who make you feel well taken care of, even on busy nights. As Ericka S. shared, “The food was PHENOMENAL, the service was great, and the entertainment was outstanding!” Truly, there is something special about dining at Evangeline’s with the backdrop of live jazz, bringing a lively spirit to the evening.
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend Evangeline’s Bistro and Music House. “ A return visit and still excited for the next time we return. Such a lovely atmosphere when the music is playing and you have an escape into cajun food. ”
“ An update to my review from a month ago: After a visit on what must've been an off day, we returned to Evangeline's Bistro for the jazz brunch and were not disappointed! We were greeted and seated immediately. Our server was helpful and friendly, and checked on us often. Drinks were all fantastic, especially the bottomless chicory coffee and the Twin Ginger. The Brabant potatoes--cubed, blanched, then deep-fried--are excellent. When in doubt, go ahead and add on the blackstrap molasses bacon; you won't regret it! ”
“ It was our anniversary and we decided to celebrate by listening to live music and eating some good food. We started off going to a place downtown, but the parking was terrible so with a little help from google, we ended up here. We made a great choice! The food was PHENOMENAL, the service was great and the entertainment was outstanding! The band was great! We loved every second of it and we can't wait to go back! ”
“ This may be my new favorite brunch spot in the city! Why have I not visited this place sooner for brunch??? Bottomless mimosas and banana fosters French toast AND beignets?!?!? I had the best meal last week and enjoyed some live music while talking with friends. Our server was super helpful and even though we were sitting in his section for 3 hours, he did not seem to mind. Definitely a good spot to check out! ”
“ We visited this restaurant to celebrate a birthday, and it did not disappoint! The live jazz band, made up of six seasoned gentlemen, played some truly amazing music that set a fun and cool atmosphere for the evening. Our group of six was seated in a large booth toward the back, which was perfect for conversation without missing out on the lively vibe. The hostess and staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, even though they were fairly busy and appeared to be short-staffed. Despite the hustle, they made sure to check in regularly, and we felt well taken care of. The drink menu is extensive, and we tried a few classics. Both the Vieux Carré and the Sazerac were executed to perfection--definitely worth trying if you're a cocktail enthusiast. Here's a rundown of the food we ordered: * Muffoletto Olive Bruschetta (4.5/5): A fantastic appetizer with flavorful olives, olive oil, and other tasty accompaniments. It was a hit with everyone at the table! * Crispy Boudin Balls (3.5/5): These were decent but didn't quite live up to the bruschetta. The texture wasn't for everyone, though it may be a matter of personal preference. * Blackened Red Snapper (4/5): The fish was well-cooked, though the seasoning was milder than I expected. Personally, I would've liked it a bit spicier. * Port of New Orleans Pasta (4/5): I've had this dish before and usually love it, but this time the sauce was slightly runnier than I prefer. That said, the seafood was fresh and delicious. * Blackened Chicken Linguine with Parmesan Sauce (4.25/5): Two people in our group ordered this and really enjoyed it. The blackened seasoning was spot-on, and the rich sauce was perfectly cooked. * Shrimp Remoulade (4.25/5): The shrimp were huge and cooked perfectly. The remoulade sauce was excellent--tangy and flavorful, making this a standout dish. * Bananas Foster (4/5): The flavor wasn't mind-blowing, but the tableside fire presentation was super fun and definitely worth the experience. * Bread Pudding (4.5/5): I'll admit to having a bread pudding addiction, and this one hit the spot! It was rich, delicious, and a must-have next time I visit. All in all, we had a great time. The mix of live music, tasty drinks, and enjoyable dishes made for a memorable evening. I'd recommend this place for anyone looking for good food and a lively atmosphere! ”
“ I loveeeeee this place! Great for accommodating large groups, we never had to ask for anything twice. This was another first time visit for me at a restaurant that I really wanted to try for a while now and I finally made my way here. When you walk in, there is a bar to the right and then restaurant seating to the left. They also offer outdoor seating, but we sat inside.when we arrived, we sat at the bar for a while because we had a pretty big party and we had to wait for majority of the party to arrive before they would see us which makes total sense. The staff were very friendly and the food was great. We got started with the happy hour drinks special, which was the Hurricane for $8. Let me tell you you will not need too many of these because they do not disappoint. It was one of the tasty hurricanes I ever had and the bartender was extremely nice. Once our party arrived, we got seated and had some shared appetizers as well as food which reviews I would post below. Boudin Balls: 5/5 Clam Strips 4/5 just need a little seasoning Crablegs: 5:5 Crabcakes: 3/5 they were pretty burnt at the bottom Hanger Steak: 5/5 Drinks: 5/5 Will absolutely be returning! ”
“ I was on my way to Drunken Fish when I saw Evangeline's on the corner of Olivette. I saw that they had live music and heavily inspired by New Orleans-style food. I love Cajun food so I diverted to Evangeline's. Our server was very kind and helpful. I didn't realize that they were only serving a brunch menu (I was really eyeing the gumbo) but I was happy to see that they had their jambalaya on the brunch menu. I ordered the jambalaya and their Hot Fragile Baby coffee cocktail. An incorrect order was brought out to me at first, and my server was quick to remedy it, although the red beans and rice that was mistakenly given to me looked really good. The jambalaya was very tasty and had a kick, but it was not like most jambalayas I've had. It was almost like a gumbo with a tomato base. I personally prefer brothier jambalayas and gumbos, but if you're looking for a hearty rice dish, this would not be it. The red beans and rice also was very soupy-looking. I wanted to order beignets to go but forgot! Il have to come back to try their gumbo and beignets. ”
“ We came in for Saturday brunch and had a great experience! We ordered the biscuits and gravy, bananas Foster's stuffed French toast, and a side of bacon. I also had a Diamond Fizz, Creole Bloody Mary, and of course coffee. The French toast was SO good and the side of bacon complimented the sweetness perfectly. I would definitely order those two together again. The Bloody Mary was great! Lots of flavor and a couple of fun garnishes. I'm pretty picky about my coffee, especially hot coffee, and I really liked the coffee here! Our serve was very friendly and kept our cups full, even though they were short staffed, you wouldn't notice. They had live music, and the musician was great! My only complaint is that it was pretty loud and hard to hear ourselves talking. ”
“ After the Central West End cocktail party, we stopped in at Evangeline's Bistro and Music House. We sat at the bar and ordered cocktails- a strawberry smash for me and a Bloody Mary for him. After chitchatting with the bar keep, we decided to split the crawfish Caroline. As usual it was quite tasty. For dinner, we both ordered the small portions of their championship gumbo. So good that we wanted to know why we didn't order the larger size. It had shrimp, crawfish, sausage and chicken. After eating all our gumbo, there was no room for dessert. Will I come back here? Yes and I'm getting the large portion of the gumbo. If you see me there stop by and say hello. ”
